While this isn't the view I actually have out of my apartment window, when I think of home I think about a warm living room full of plants, books, music, and friends—in an adopted home I've come to love, which sometimes loves me back.

Larry Buchanan is a journalist at The New York Times, where he focuses on visual journalism. He's published more than 100 pieces for the Times in various forms. Before that, he was at The New Yorker. Before that, he was on his couch in a log cabin in Bloomington, Indiana.
